SUMMARY:Chris Kummer: Enjoying the Therapeutic Uses of Yoga
DESCRIPTION:Share this:CET (Continuing Education and Training Program) \nThis immersion is accredited for YJCET\, and Yoga Alliance CET (continuing education) to maintain YogaJaya Accreditation and Yoga Alliance registration status. \nmore info on CET programs….. \nToday almost everyone can participate in yoga classes of various styles and degrees of difficulty. However\, each person brings to the mat their own abilities\, challenges and risks. Group classes are mostly not designed to address individual requirements. Therefore it is essential for each yoga practitioner to know how to make use of yoga to his or her own advantage. At a minimum each yoga practitioner must know how to take care of their body during class\, but ultimately\, therapeutic yoga can be an entire practice designed to focus on particular goals. \nIn this series of workshops we will look from an integrated perspective at posture\, yoga asana\, movements and myofascial connections. We will examine their component muscle action\, bone\, joint\, nerve and ligament positions and fascia directions. We also explore how the different ways of utilizing these components affect other functions of the body\, such as digestive\, neurological and general health. \nIt is important to approach asana from an integrated understanding where every action\, or inaction affects the whole body. Based on our study\, observation and analysis we can derive a more efficient way to move and hold ourselves\, and what this means for how we practice yoga. Learn how to avoid common problems that only show up after years of practice. \nModule 1: Beyond the four corners of the feet\n October 9\, 18:45-21:15 \nGood posture begins with the feet. \nShoes\, under-use and imbalanced posture reduce the ability of your feet to carry you with strength and good support. Knee\, lower back and even neck pain can be the result of not using the feet to the best of one’s abilities. Did you know that even tension in the jaw could be related to the arches of your feet? And did you know lower back discomfort could be related to the way you walk? \nIn this module you will learn to integrate feet\, arches and ankle position into any posture. We shine the spotlight on some of the intricacies of the feet and their effects on asana alignment. Learn specific practices for a better foundation to continue your yoga path on the ‘right footing’. \nModule 2: Are you using your yoga practice to enhance digestive function?\n October 10\, 18:45-21:15 \nEvery yoga pose from arm balance to savasana and every breath influence your digestive system. Your digestive tract is the powerhouse that provides energy and nutrition to almost every cell in your body. \nThe Autonomic Nervous System is responsible for proper function of the digestive system. Together\, we will explore yoga practices\, such as bandha\, asana\, pranayama and relaxation to influence the ANS. Learn for example which respiratory patterns stimulate peristalsis and which practices support the pancreas to influence blood sugar levels. \nUnderstand more about the role of yoga in absorption and elimination to enhance digestive system function and how to respond to certain digestive problems. \nModule 3: Yoga for healthy knees\n October 11\, 18:45-21:15 \nThe knee is the largest joint of the body\, yet also called ‘the joint of a thousand problems’. Knees are easily thought of as hinge joints\, which isn’t true to their actual function and hence cause some of the difficulties experienced with the knees. \nThis module takes you into the world of subtle details of knee structure\, alignment\, use and rehabilitation. We will explore meniscus movement\, ligament and fascia support for the various movement directions and normal shifts within the joint in respect to yoga asana. \nFind out how you may be damaging your knees without even knowing it. \nWhether you are beginning your yoga journey or are teaching\, this module will prepare you for a healthier practice. \nModule 4: Carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders\n October 12\, 18:15-20:45 \nMuch of our life we spend with tension around the shoulders and neck. \nMany yoga practitioners utilize the shoulder as if it were a single joint and eventually develop chronic and acute shoulder problems. To avoid this outcome\, we need to understand the shoulders as joint complexes comprised of several joints. \nWe will also:\n• Learn how to protect and stabilize these joints with the four levels of shoulder support.\n• Experience the shoulder movement rhythm\, which helps us the move the shoulders more effectively.\n• Discuss and practice alignment principles for the main categories of yoga asana.
