Hikaru Tanaka: Basic hatha yoga course
This is a basic course designed to help beginners understand the dynamics of yoga posture techniques with correct breathing and intro to basic yoga philosophy. Beginner students who complete this course will be ready to attend YogaJaya level 1 to 3 led public classes.
WEEK 1

Discussion: What is Yoga? History of Yoga. 4 Kinds of Yoga
Introduction to proper utilization of breath for physical yoga practice: Abdominal Breathing.
Basic postures. Focus on back, legs and hips
WEEK 2
Saturday, January 21, 15:00-17:00
Discussion: Connection between correct breathing and health.
Expanded Breathing techniques: Using of the diaphragm.
Yoga warm-up sequences (Sun Salutations)
Posture focus on hamstrings, groin, and opening the hips.
WEEK 3
Saturday, January 28, 15:00-17:00
Discussion: Benefits and explanation of working with and stimulating correct energy flow though the body.
Expanded Breathing techniques: Using the thoracic region.
Inverted postures, spinal twists and the dynamics of balance.
WEEK 4
Saturday, February 4, 15:00-17:00
Discussion: Other aspects or limbs of yoga practice.
Expanded breathing techniques: Combination of breath with focusing the mind as the intention.
Integration and flow of breathing and postures.
