Amrit Stein learned ballet and modern dance from childhood. In 1980 she met Rohini Bhate, one of the foremost Kathak masters in India, and since then has been dedicated to the art of Kathak. At present, she continues her Kathak training under the guidance of Kumudini Lakhia in Ahmedabad.

Amrit Stein has given various performances in Japan, Europe and India to wide public acclaim for her command of the complete technique of Kathak, expressive abhinaya, boldly innovative choreography and the subtle blending of Indian and Western styles in her creative endeavours. Amrit is also a direct student of the great hatha yoga master B.K.S.Iyengar. She is a senior certified instructor of Iyengar yoga and is the co-director of the Iyengar Yoga Institut Munich, Germany. She is the author of a book on Kathak, published by Windpferd Edition as well having produced a CD featuring music for Kathak dance.
