Masae came in contact with yoga while traveling in California, where she attended a yoga class at a community hall. She was immediately attracted to its mystical aspects as a means of expanding one’s physical potential through psychosomatic channels.

Believing the logic of all existence taking the form of physical matters, Masae studied chemistry at Keio University to delve deeply into the laws of matter. Her interest grew into research of unseen subtle forces in Keio University Graduate School, leading her toward academic conferences and international academic publications.

Masae’s desire to learn was not limited to chemistry, but extended also to her self. In her search into self-inquiry and acknowledgement, Masae traveled widely in India, Nepal and Laos. But her aim of separating herself from her prior environment had limited lasting effects, as she found herself returning to the mundane realities of daily life each time she returned to Japan.

After her graduate studies, Masae worked as an engineer for a major corporation. Wearing coveralls and a helmet, she spent her days covered in oil. But her desire for inquiry survived, leading her further along the path of yoga and into a deepening practice. Masae was luckily gifted with the encounter and experience of attending the YogaJaya International Teacher Training at a time when she was facing real difficulty in establishing a connection between yoga and life. The result was that Masae re-committed herself to pursuing the deep, spiritual side of yoga that transcends mind and body. Through her experience, Masae became aware of the things that had restricted her all of her life, gradually freeing herself from multiple layers of existence that had encumbered her. As Masae’s perceptions changed, a deep love for everything around her began to grow, bringing her to a realization that what she had been pursuing in her travels was not only all there in yoga, but was something even more profound.

Masae completed YogaJaya International Teacher Training. She is certified as a YogaJaya Accredited Teacher (YJAT) and a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance. Her passion is to unravel the restrictions that hold us back in life, and to share peace, freedom and deep love with all. Coupling her pursuit of yoga with a vision of food as a building block for both the body and the heart, Masae has also worked in vegetarian restaurants, and is currently also actively engaged as a teacher in various cooking schools.
