Noriyuki Tomiyama is a teacher of Ashtanga Yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Nori believes that the Ashtanga system, with its set sequence of postures designed to develop both strength and flexibility, is a powerful tool balancing for body and mind.
Nori teaches his students to practice mindfully, with awareness on breathe and bandhas. For beginners, his focus is on alignment, dristhis and vinyasas. With his deep knowledge of anatomy, he approaches each student as an individual, aiming to help correct body imbalances from the outset.
Nori started practicing Hatha yoga in 2000 and Ashtanga in 2002 with authorized teacher Ken Harakuma. He then traveled to Mysore, India in 2004 to study at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute, spending 12 months overall under the guidance of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois practicing the Intermediate Series – Nadi Shodhana. Most recently, he has spent time in Thailand, studying Buddhist meditation.
Nori teaches Mysore and Primary-led classes. In 2004 he taught in Japan as one of the original head teachers at YogaJaya next to Director, Patrick Oancia. Additionally, he has taught extensivly in Europe and South Asia. Nori has completed the Yoga Arts teachers training, and is certified the International Yoga Alliance.
